Community Programme Coordinator

The Institute of Health Programs and Systems (IHPS) is a South African non-profit company (NPC) born out of the PEPFAR CDC Track 1 transition of the ICAP, Columbia University, Multi-country AIDS Program (MCAP) in South Africa in 2010. The IHPS mission is “to strengthen health and development systems through program implementation and partnerships,” and the vision is “optimal and sustainable health and development outcomes”. Presently, IHPS is a Global Fund Subrecipient (SR) under Networking HIV and AIDS Community of Southern Africa (NACOSA), tasked to implement the “My Journey Adolescents and Young People (AYP) Programme”, in Mbombela Subdistrict, Mpumalanga Province, from January 2026 to March 2028. Overall Responsibility

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Community Programme Coordinator will lead the implementation of community-based activities under the “My Journey” programme, ensuring effective stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and integration of services for AYP.

Key Performance Areas:

Programme Support:

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with local CBOs, FBOs, schools, clinics, SAPS, and traditional leadership structures.
  • Conduct stakeholder sensitisation workshops on AYP health rights, gender sensitivity, and anti-discrimination.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and supervision of Peer Educators, Social Workers, and Paralegal.
  • Coordinate community outreach plans, mobile clinic schedules, and health promotion campaigns in alignment with programme targets.
  • Monitor the implementation of the operational plan and provide supportive supervision to field teams.
  • Compile monthly activity reports, success stories, and challenges for programme review and donor reporting.
  • Facilitate community feedback mechanisms to ensure programme responsiveness and accountability.
  • Conduct weekly performance meetings to assess progress, provide feedback, and address any challenges to ensure program success.
  • Assume any other duties as assigned by the Program Manager, and IHPS Senior Management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or social sciences 
  • At least 5-7 years’ experience in community development,
  • Registration with the South African Council for Social Services Profession (SACSSP)/relevant professional body
  • Experience working with Youth
  • Computer literacy – intermediate level in MS Office programmes
  • Proficiency in English and local languages.
  • Valid driver’s license.
