Driver/Data Capturer
The Institute of Health Programs and Systems (IHPS) is a South African non-profit company (NPC) born out of the PEPFAR CDC Track 1 transition of the ICAP, Columbia University, Multi-country AIDS Program (MCAP) in South Africa in 2010. IHPS was established with a mission “to strengthen health and development systems through program implementation and partnerships” and, the vision is to ensure “optimal and sustainable health and development outcomes”. IHPS is a current Global Fund (GF) Subrecipient (SR) under the National Department of Health (NDoH), tasked to implement the Tuberculosis (TB) Program in the Johannesburg (JHB) Health District in Gauteng Province (GP) and Kenneth Kaunda District in the Northwest (NW) Province starting April 2022 ending March 2025. As such, IHPS seeks to recruit for the position outlined below, to be based at Johannesburg Health District.

Overall Responsibility
To drive Mobile Laboratory Vehicle to designated testing areas and deliver specimens to the closed NHLS testing laboratory. To transport Mobile Laboratory Staff to and from the designated collection point. Provide administrative support in the mobile laboratory. Administers the receiving, capturing and printing of specimen onto the lab information system and print results. To ensure correct information is obtained and recorded and to facilitate the speedy processing of data in terms of service.
- Ability to drive Mobile Lab Vehicle
- Ensure that specimen count matches waybill
- Collect Mobile Vehicle consumable from the NHLS
- Follow daily collection schedule and adhere to schedule in order not to compromise lab work
- Maintain a logbook for distance travelled, Fuel consumption and refueling the vehicle
- Keep vehicles clean and carry out necessary safety checks
- Operate the vehicle with care and consideration for other road users
- Preparing accident and incident reports as necessary
- Always obey traffic rules
- Providing routine administrative support
- Receives surveillance related data and specimens and manages their flow and processing according to standard operating procedures
- Timely capture all data according to set targets and ensure high quality and accuracy of data
- Identify and report technical errors with data captured to supervisors in order to correct errors
- Verify accuracy and completeness of data and generates queries for missing data and data discrepancies
- Administer the distribution of data queries to sites to ensure the correct and prioritized channeling of data queries to various sites
- Keep all data forms and logbooks for audit purposes as required by the standard operating procedures
- Ensure data completeness and accuracy on all forms
- Appropriately file all data forms as per set SOPs
- Create a log of all case notification forms captured
- Create a log of all forms requiring data corrections and keep the log updated to show which errors have been rectified
- Daily data checks on the relevant systems to ensure data accuracy and consistency and correct matching of patient data from various sources (Clinical, lab, other)
- Daily merging of cases reported that require manual case linking
- Grade 12
- Computer certificate
- Knowledge of health environment
- IATA certification would be advantageous
- Two years’ experience working as a driver
- Code 10 drivers’ license plus Professional Driver Permit (PDP)
- Ability to maintain accurate records
