The Institute of Health Programs and Systems (IHPS) is a South African non-profit company (NPC) born out of the PEPFAR CDC Track 1 transition of the ICAP, Columbia University, Multi-country AIDS Program (MCAP) in South Africa in 2010. The IHPS mission is “to strengthen health and development systems through program implementation and partnerships,” and the vision is “optimal and sustainable health and development outcomes”. Presently, IHPS is a Global Fund Subrecipient (SR) under Networking HIV and AIDS Community of Southern Africa (NACOSA), tasked to implement the “My Journey Adolescents and Young People (AYP) Programme”, in Mbombela Subdistrict, Mpumalanga Province, from January 2026 to March 2028. Overall Responsibility

Under the supervision of the Project Administrator, the Driver/Mobilizer will safely operate the Code 8 program vehicle while actively mobilizing AYP to access HIV, TB, and SRH services under the “My Journey” programme.

Key Performance Areas:
  • Safely drive and maintain program vehicle, conducting routine pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure roadworthiness.
  • Transport clinical teams, project staff, medical supplies, equipment, and specimens to outreach sites, health facilities, and community locations across the district.
  • Ensure proper handling and timely delivery of health products, materials, and laboratory specimens to relevant facilities.
  • Maintain vehicle upkeep, including refueling, checking oil and fluid levels, arranging periodic servicing, and promptly reporting mechanical faults or defects.
  • Accurately complete and submit all required vehicle documentation, including trip logs, fuel records, petrol slips, and service receipts.
  • Mobilize adolescents and young people (AYP) in targeted communities through door-to-door campaigns, community dialogues, local events, and advocacy activities to promote programme enrolment.
  • Support health promotion sessions and distribute condoms and educational materials in line with programme guidelines.
  • Compile and submit basic activity reports on community mobilization reach and service uptake.
  • Work collaboratively with the programme teams to support effective delivery of biomedical and community-based services.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by IHPS Senior Management.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 or equivalent 
  • Valid and unendorsed code 08 driver’s license 
  • Advantageous – valid public driving permit (PDP)
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Being a team player with excellent people skills 
  • No criminal record or registration on any sexual offences register
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) in English and relevant local languages 
  • Experience working with young people
